Third-year forward made a significant leap in his second season on the court, and the Nuggets lock in another core piece.

After scooping up — and developing — a potential star due to injury concerns during the 2018 NBA Draft, the Nuggets are betting that this has only been the beginning for forward Michael Porter Jr., whose agency announced Monday that he had re-signed on a rookie maximum extension.

Earlier at the team’s Media Day, Nuggets President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly said he “can’t imagine” Porter playing anywhere else, and this deal would provide five additional seasons of security on that front. Porter averaged 19.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in his second season on the floor, shooting 44.5% and 52.4% overall.
